That is interesting about the Egyptians...Courtney,

That is interesting about the Egyptians being so clean. I learn something new every day:). And you're right--that probably explains their feelings about the Israelites being "detestable. Good call!

And I, too, am amazed by the cluelessness of the disciples. I guess some things are so awful that they are beyond people's ability to grasp and deal with until they actually happen. Even so, I still have a hard time understanding how unprepared they were in light of Jesus' repeated warnings!Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15063678082377147197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9112439593032667008.post-42769313029708502712010-02-09T06:59:00.477-08:002010-02-09T06:59:00.477-08:00OT - It is bloody deal! Did they take them off? The smells and the yuckiness of it really strike me as unhygienic! There was blood everywhere!

But, then I contrast that with what I know of the Egyptian culture of the time ..I love Egyptian history. It is so complex and spiritual. I take every chance I can get to watch stuff on the History Channel on that culture. THEY were very clean people - they shaved, bathed, avoided certain things/people/foods because they were detestable to them.

Remember, when Joseph told his brothers to say they were shepherds because then the Pharaoh would have them settle far away..because shepherds were detestable to Egyptians (Gen 46:34).

I bet the sheer shock of the difference in what they were used to made a statement. I mean, they still slaughtered their own meat and stuff. But they probably didnt got about slinging blood here and there and splashing it on themselves and eachother. I would think the cleanliness of the Egyptian culture had an impact on their view of this ceremony.

Interesting.

Matt - I am always a bit struck by how the disciples seems to be oblivious to what Jesus is actually saying. He is saying, "this is it, guys. I am gonna die, tonight." But, they seem to be NOT stressed enough about it to sleep. Jesus gets a reaction out of them when he mentions that someone will betray him, but they still seem to not understand completely what is about to happen. I guess they couldnt, but later when it all plays out you can tell they werent mentally prepared for that was happening (when they disappear, and Peter betrays him) . It is like they are scrambling and confused by all of it, like they werent expecting that at ALL.

The build up is intense, for sure.Courtneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10842076898324199994noreply@blogger.com
